I am pleased to announce that the Tentative Agreement (TA) passed with 85.6% of membership voting to approve the TA. Not only am I happy that we have successfully completed bargaining for the 2021-2022 negotiations cycle, but I am also delighted that more members demonstrated their right to vote than in years before. Thank you members for voting and letting your voice be heard. The board will be approving the TA at the December 14th board meeting.

Don’t miss this opportunity to apply for these grants. There are both Educator Grants for $5,000 and Impact Grants for $20,000. We’ve had two VTA members receive grants. Reagan Duncan and Traves O'Neill for programs they have implemented at their school sites. Great Job!
Application submissions will be accepted from December 1, 2021 to March 31, 2022 for the 2022-2023 school year.
Please come out to Wildwood Restaurant this Thursday December 16th from 3:30-5:30 pm. This is a great way to meet fellow members from other sites. We hope to see you there!
In February we will be planning a family friendly hike. Date and place TBD.
Reflecting back on this year of challenges and rewards, I can help but be proud of our association and how it has grown in strength and unity. That is because of your voice and participation. Thank you for allowing me to represent the members of our local 1088. I wish you a merry Winter Break. I hope it is filled with love and joy.

One lucky member will have a gift bag from Belching Beaver on Monday December 20, 2021.
As I sip my coffee this quiet Monday morning, I look out my front window at the sunny Southern California autumn, I see the start of the desert Santa Ana winds in the swaying of palm fronds. I don’t know about you, but I love this time of year. The weather is generally beautiful, there is football on t.v., and it is time to pause to focus on friends and families. It’s a time to honor the relationships that we value as priorities in our lives. Whether it’s a Friendsgiving, a large family gathering, or however you celebrate, please pause and enjoy your break. I can not say it enough. You deserve it.
As we pause to honor the relationships and connections that bring value to our community, I can not miss the opportunity to send tons of gratitude your way for how you have served the students of Vista Unified. Being an educator certainly wasn’t easy before the pandemic, and the challenges of Covid hasn’t made the profession any easier. As I have visited sites, and spoken to our diverse membership, I hear your deep commitment to our students and for that VTA says “Thank You!”
Bargaining: I know many of you want to know more about bargaining. A bargaining update will be going out after our next bargaining meeting (date to be determined). We will keep you posted about any upcoming information. As of now the last bargaining update has the most current information.
Please watch for us at your site: Vista Teachers Association Listening Tour. Ask your site Rep when we will be out. We will bring Gifts and Food and are there to answer questions, address concerns, and meet our membership so we can develop those important relationships and know how our membership feels so we can represent you.
Know Your Contract: Article 16 goes over the different types of leaves and when and how they can be used. To know the difference between Sick Leave(16.1), Personal, and Personal Necessity Leave (16.9), please check out the Contract
The Standard: The last day to enroll in the Standard is NOV. 30, 2021. If you do not have Standard Disability Insurance do not let this opportunity pass. Here is the link to find out more information.
Thankful Thursday: VTA will be holding a Thankful Thursday Happy Hour at Wildwood Bar and Grill in Vista on December 16, 2021 from 3:30-5:30. First 20 people get a free cocktail. All other drink tabs will be 10% off. Appetizers will be provided. Come out and see old friends and maybe make some new connections.
As I watch the Santa Ana winds grow stronger, I think of our association, Local #1088, and how it grows stronger everyday as we continue to grow in membership. We will continue to focus on our working conditions, hours, and wages because your working conditions are the learning environments of our students. VTA will continue to reach out to all membership to hear your voice and represent you. If you have any questions, you can always reach out to your site rep, or to me. I value building relationships with you, our membership; after all it is all about those important relationships. Please continue to wear your shirts on Thursdays to show solidarity as we stand up for working conditions, hours, and wages.
We are #strongertogether.
Question of the Month: What are you thankful for?
To be entered into a raffle for a Belching Beaver gift bag answer at email@example.com
Dear Esteemed Members,
Thank you for your tremendous service to the students of Vista Unified; however, as I send VTA’s heartfelt gratitude, I do not want to normalize unrealistic expectations of educators. It has been inspiring to witness how you have prioritized Vista’s students. You often sacrifice your own families, your health, and for some, your personal beliefs. I want to remind you that self-care is important. This link is a workshop on Nov. 3rd for educators to promote and support self-care for yourself.
At VTA’s Representative Council meeting on Monday night, we voted unanimously to communicate and encourage our membership to exercise their rights when asked to split classes, or sub during their prep time. Working together as a collective bargaining unit will send a clear message to the district of our value until we reach a Tentative Agreement (TA) including FAIR COMPENSATION.
Message From Executive Board and Representative Council
It’s clear that many members are overworked and feel undervalued, yet the District continues to increase the workload on its staff. Meanwhile the District still has yet to recognize your work with one-time RESTORATIVE COMPENSATION that surrounding educators received long ago.
This is not a bonus! We are appealing to the District to compensate educators in Vista for all we have given in extra time and expenses out of our own pockets the last 18 months. Until they do so, we think it’s time to start resisting the District’s ever-increasing demands.
Our strength comes through unity, and one way to show our power is by collectively exercising our rights and not splitting classes or giving up our limited prep time to sub. In doing so, we send a clear message that we stand together for reasonable working conditions and fair compensation.
We also encourage you to wear your VTA shirts this Thursday, Nov. 4th (VTA bargaining), and every Thursday in a continuous show of solidarity.
If we continue to solve problems for the district, they will continue to TAKE, TAKE, TAKE, and fail to compensate us in a timely manner. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!! Show them what our educators are worth.

Monthly Raffle Question
What is your favorite horror movie and why?...Happy Halloween!
We will be drawing the winning response on Thursday, November 4th.
Happy first day of Fall. I know this year has already had it’s fair share of challenges, I hope it has been good being back with your students. As I have been visiting sites, it has been great to see students and educators back on campus.
Back in Black
We are asking for all our members to wear your VTA shirts on Thursdays to support our current negotiations of our MOU and to show unity amongst us all. We are in the process of getting new shirts ordered for everyone that still needs one. Please reach out to your site rep if you would like one.
Hopefully your site has had or is going to be having this month’s 10 minute meeting. These meetings are a great time for our membership to collaborate and bring forth site matters that may need to be addressed. It is also a way to find out important information or opportunities that VTA has to offer.
